20110806-090917.jpg“The Allegan County Democrats thanked the Tea Party for the US S&P credit rating downgrade recently on their Facebook page. Apparently the Democrats believe that we can borrow our way out debt. If it weren’t for the pressure that the Tea Party and Tea Party Republicans put on Washington DC, we wouldn’t havethe spending reforms or the potential for a balanced budget amendment that we now do. The crisis crisis didn’t just happen with the S & P credit downgrade or when we hit our debt ceiling. It began the day Washington DC began spending

more than our nation could afford and mortgaged our kids future. The S & P downgrade is simply a result of those irresponsible spending habits. We need to continue to put pressure on DC to dramatically decrease spending, produce a balanced budget amendment, cut their credit cards, and move to a zero base budget.”

Redistricting and Allegan County

As you know, every 10 years our legislative maps are redrawn as a result of population shifts (based on Census numbers).  The new legislative maps for Michigan have been released and there are some big changes for Allegan County with regard to the US Congress, the State Senate, and the State House.  Here’s what I’ve gleaned so far.

In the Senate – it appears that the entirety of Allegan County will become a member of the 26th State Senate district, represented by Senator Tonya Schuitmaker.

In the State House – Allegan County will become a member of the 80th House district (which will include all of Allegan County EXCEPT Dorr, Leighton, Wayland Townships, and the City of Wayland), and the 72nd State House district (Dorr, Leighton, Wayland Townships, and the City of Wayland which will join with Gaines Township and the city of Kentwood).

In Congress – The entirety of Allegan County will become a member of the 6th Congressional District (except for a small portion of the City of Holland) represented by Fred Upton.

I’m digging deeper to look at implications and impact and will let you know my thoughts.

2011 Allegan GOP Lincoln Day Dinner

•March 11, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I’m happy to announce the 2011 Allegan County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner will be Monday, May 16th.  It’s apropos that our speaker this year is a Representative of the United State Congress – and I’m pleased that Congressman Bill Huizenga will keynote our dinner.

We’re only a few months into the New Year, and already our nation has witnessed astonishing changes in Washington DC with the overturn of “Obamacare,” the ouster of Nancy Pelosi and ascension of Speaker Boehner, and dramatic proposed spending cuts.  Congressman Huizenga has not only been a strong conservative participant in bringing about these changes, he has quickly become a high profile conservative leader that his colleagues, the media, and a nation is taking notice of.

Allegan County’s 2nd Congressional District elected Congressman Huizenga with 73% of the vote in November 2010.

I invite you to join us and hear for yourself Congressman’s Huizenga’s accounts of his first months in our nations Capitol.  This will be a night you won’t want to miss!
